The Golden Compass - An Atheist Film
Oct 26th, 2007 by Kevin Purcell
Coming December 7 is a film called The Golden Compass and based on a book by author Philip Pullman from Great Britain.
The author is an avowed atheist whose desire is to “kill God in the minds of children.” The movie is to the atheist movement what The Chronicles of Narnia was for Christianity, a fictional way of presenting the message of its author and his faith.
I am not a reactionary and seldom advocate boycotts of things like films and TV shows. In actuality I think it is often a good idea to see such films in order to refute the ideas they promote so long as they are not morally infectious with nudity and extreme examples of violence and profanity. However, this is an insidious method of promoting atheism. It is aimed at children who naturally believe in God and assume He exists until experience or the brainwashing of people like Pullman convince them otherwise. My advice to parents is do not let your children see this film until you have seen it first. If for some reason you choose to let them see it, please be sure to use the opportunity to talk to them about the existence of God and the truth of Christianity.
Here is a link for more information about the film. Also if you do a Google search you can find the trailer for the film. The plot has a little girl who is supposedly a fulfillment of a “witches” prophecy. She will in the end defeat the “magisterium” which no doubt represents God, religion, or the church. The witches are the good guys and the magisterium is the enemy in this story. You see the allegorical representation. The goal of the story is to defeat and “kill God” for children so they can “do what they want to do.”
This is not a surprising view. Due to the failures of corrupt religion in the world many people see the church as a tool of evil. After all, how many people complain that if it were not for the crusades Muslims would not hate Christians as much as they do. That may or may not be true. The crusades, where “Christians” in the middle ages tried to take back the Holy Land by force, was not our brightest moment. However, they do not represent true Christian teaching, which says at its basic level that God loves all people and wants all people to trust him for forgiveness through Jesus Christ who gave Himself up for the world. How can that be cruel and evil? But atheists, who by default are actually worshipping Satan, cannot have anyone worship Christ. Their faith leads them to destroy God in whatever form we believe in Him. And this movie is one attempt to sneak that truth into the minds of children. Christians have been using this medium too so we cannot be angry and call foul. Narnia came before the compass stories. So instead of whining about it and claiming it is unfair, let’s beat them in the game and show how such ideas are truly more devastating for the world than is the Christian faith flourishing in the minds of all, not just children. I am not afraid to let Christianity stand in a fair comparison with the other world religions or no religion at all. If it is truly a fair comparison, I have enough faith in my God and His teachings. I am not afraid! If our faith cannot stand against other faiths or no faith at all, then it must be a lie. I know it is not and therefore confidently say, “Let the debate begin!”
