Brit Hume is My Hero

Brit Hume used to be the anchor of the Fox News Channel’s nightly news broadcast. He still takes part in the network as an analyst and probably other things.  He was on one of their programs Sunday and said Tiger Wood should become a Christian to restore himself and his life. In the face of some conflict, you might have expected him to back down and retract his words. Instead he offered these words of wisdom on Bill O’Reilly’s program.

Super Woodson

This might be the single greatest play by a defensive back in run support I’ve ever seen in my 20 years of watching professional football.

Go Pack! Go!

Gotta say it. Go Pack! Go! Tommorrow is the biggest game of the year so far. Win and it sets them up nicely. Lose and it digs a big hole.

Hitler Tired of Brett Too!

My View from Packers Training Camp

This is an email I sent to a Packers email group I am a part of on YahooGroups.com.

What a blast.  Since my family and I were in Milwaukee already for the week visiting my parents/sisters, we decided to take the drive to Lambeau for the first day of camp.  It was a blast!!  I’ve never been when there was actually anything going.  Three years ago we visited and did the Hall of fame but it was not during camp or the season.
We got there and noticed the line of people outside Lambeau and realized that was were the players would be coming out and riding the bikes.  We got along the path and were right in the corner where they turned toward the practice field.  Some security guy was in the way of almost all our pix.  But got IMG_0346 enough.  My youngest is 11 and high fiving the players as they come out was enough for him.  He’d have been happy to go home then.  But then we walked over and watched camp. The new bleachers were already packed full and both ends of the field were lined with people three and four rows deep.  We found two old guys and I told my boy to push in front of them and gave him our point and shoot and he took tons of pix through the hols of the fence.  I found a trash can and stood behind a couple with a stroller and hoped the kiddo would stir enough to make them want to leave.  It worked.  So I was able to shoot through the fence with an unobstructed view.  God some pix of Woodson and the D working out and then a few of Driver and the receivers catching balls.  Saw Aaron Kampman doing the river dance between plays but the camera wasn’t ready at that instant so I missed it.
After my wife and two sons were bored of practice and I got about 3 GB of shots we went over to the tent  with the things for the kids.  My sons had a blast.  Saw one kid do the football toss and he stood way back and pegged all three holds dead center.  Sign him up!  Then my son went and missed all three standing closer.   Oh well, he plays soccer and is trying out for Kicker/:Punter anyway.

The picture above is my son high fiving the players as they drove by.  That’s my son wearing the Woodson jersey on the left.  As you can see Jordy Nelson (87) and Pat Lee (22) are the players.

Daniel Playing Soccer

He played a great game with an inured left hand, so no goalie.  But he scored 2 goals – in fact the team’s only two goals to win 2-1.  Sadly, I didn’t get the goals on video.  But here is what I did get.  Enjoy

The Point In the Favre Story

If you haven’t already, make sure you read this post about Favre feeding the Lions info on the Packers.  Don’t worry; I’ll wait for you.

Done?

The point that I’d like to make about this thing is that this is what happens when you hold a grudge or harbor bitterness.  If Favre did it, [UPDATE: Since Favre did it ...] he’s holding a grudge against Ted Thompson and the Green Bay for what he perceives as very unfair treatment.  He can’t get past it according to his own words.  It is coloring his life while we in Green, or at least many of us who are Packer fans, are moving on with a fine young QB named Aaron Rodgers.  But, before I throw Brett under the bus, as I stated at the end of the previous post (you did read it didn’t you? if not go ahead now) I was not surprised and quickly assumed it was true.  Maybe I’m holding a grudge.

Now when it comes down to fans and teams, its not like I’m not going to be able to go have dinner with Favre or he won’t return my phone calls.  He would have done that before.  He doesn’t have a clue who I am unless he Googled his name and found my post.  Hi Brett!

When this kind of thing comes between people who do know one another, then it threatens to do real harm.  Work place spats have led to people being fired, doing poor work, kept deserving employees from being promoted and put undeserving people ahead of those who should have been promoted.  And what does it do in families?  Marriages break up over this kind of unforgiving bitterness.  I’ve seen it tear church members apart and lead to families leaving a fellowship over something like this.  Pastors have been fired for less.

Jesus expects more of us.  He asked his disciples, "How many times should we forgive?  7 times?"  They probably thought that would be pretty magnanimous of them to forgive 7 times.  Then Jesus turned up the heat.  He answered the question saying, "70 times 7!"  And the point is not that after she hurts your feelings the 490th time you are off the hook.  The point is that we, who are full of sin and have probably been forgiven by god 7,000 times 7,000 times, should forgive every time someone needs it.  Notice I said needs it and not asks for it.

Brett Favre knows not my name.  But, even though you chose to leave my team and might be doing all you can to torpedo their season this year, I will still go to dinner with you and I won’t bring it up.  That’s pretty easy for me knowing its not likely to ever happen.  But now can we forgive those people we know?

I Hope This Is Not True

There is a report that Brett Favre, the man I have loved to cheer for as a Packer fan since he took over for Don Majkowski against my wife’s Bengals and beat them in a miraculous 4th quarter comeback, reportedly sought out the Detroit Lions to give them info on how to beat the Packers offense. It would be one thing for a guy to tell his new team how to beat his old team.  I wouldn’t really be that upset if Brett had a good buddy with Detroit who called him and asked him some stuff about Green Bay.  I wouldn’t do it in that situation.  But to actively go out of your way to offer the information is sour grapes and proves what a little man Brett Favre has become, if it is true.  Favre claims it is “total B.S.” (that stands for bison stew I assume).  But sadly, I seem to believe it.  And that is how terrible this whole thing has become.

UPDATE: It’s true!

Plant Foot

This is one of the many pictures I took at the recent games of my son’s High School Soccer games. He is playing backup goalie for Draugh High School soccer. This one was actually an accident. But as I noticed the right foot of the player in focus while the rest is motion blurred, I liked what it said about good technique. Firmly plant that foot in order to get a good strong kick. He’s Done

I’ve been a Packer fan most of my life.  The only reason I don’t say all of my life is I didn’t really know about them when I was really small since my family was not really not a sports family.  But I came by it from my days growing up in central and southeastern Wisconsin.

Brett FavreWhen Brett Favre came in to relieve the injured Don Majkowski in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals I was sitting on the couch of one my church members in Williamstown, KY.  They were all Bengals fans along with my wife.  And I was sure our hopes of winning were gone.  But the miracle career started in miraculous fashion.  And that was the beginning of my fandom for number 4.  I indoctrinated my sons into loving 4 and his team when they were young.  Unfortunately the oldest son has betrayed me.  That’s OK because he did root for them in the playoffs this year after his favorite team, the Colts, lost.

But this past week Brett chose to “hang up the cleats” after breaking every record int he book and giving all of us Packer fans a wonderful ride.  As I watched his tearful announcement on the NFL Network I cried.  Honestly.  I did!  But what touched me most was the first thank you he gave was to God and it seemed truly sincerely and eloquent.  He thanked God for the talent and opportunity to play.  The way he said it, the tone in his voice and expression on his face, led me to believe that this was not just words; he really was thankful to God!  I know his wife is a little more spiritual than he is.  They are both believers and it makes me thankful to have been his fan all these years.  I hope I will get to enjoy hanging out in heaven with all of the other Packer fans and former players.  As we enjoy remembering the gool ole days along with another fan.  After all why is the grace green and the streets in heaven gold?

Brett!  So long.
