Today my family and I arrived in Greensboro for the Southern Baptist Convention’s Pastor’s Conference, WMU Convention and the SBC Annual Meeting. The first night was a interesting one. The first speaker was Dick Lincoln, the pastor of Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia, SC. I unfortunately was a little late by the time I got my kids checked into the kids conference. His message was probably quite good, but alll I head was the tail end where he spent a little time on the Calvinist Debate that is starting flare up in our denomination. He also hit on the worship wars going on. I don’t know if he referenced any specific bible passage (I am sure he began with one).
Following Lincoln was an old favorite at the Pastor’s Conference circuit — Johnny Hunt, Pastor of FBC of Woodstock, GA. Johnny has begun (or maybe he alwas did and I never noticed) reading his sermons. He did this when I heard him in Jacksonville, FL at the Pastor’s School and he did this tonight. He preached from Acts 17 and talked about how Paul handled being a witness. It was a good message. The best line was when he said something like “Why did his opposition had to chase him everywhere. They ran him out of town; why didn’t they just leave him alone?” I missed Rick Warren’s message because I had to pick up the kids from the kids’ program.
If you are interested in watching the conference or the convention via streaming video you can. The next live event is Monday, June 12 at 6:30 PM.
One last thing. Tomorrow my wife and I will have been married for 13 years. Lucky number thirteen. I just pray she doesn’t get wise and cut me loose. I love you Barb!!!
